Is is possible to live several weeks without food; Several days without water; but we cannot live more than three or four minutes without breathing. The oxygen in the air is necessary for food to be burned in our cells to produce energy for living. And there is only one way to obtain this oxygen: by breathing
We must breathe well and deeply. Futhermore it is necessary to breathe pure air. Good physical posture must be maintained, with the upper torso erect to facilitate breathing. Try to see to it that your place of work and your bedroom are always well ventilated. Remember that when someone smokes in an enclosed area, all who breathe this contaminated air are also "SMOKING".
It is always well to start the day by taking some deep breaths in an open area. Take advantage of every opportunity to go outdoors and breaths deeply. RESPIRATION is the FIRST FUNCTION of life.Your brain and entire organism will function bettter if you breathe the purest air possible.
Water is the universal solvent of living matter. Around 60% of our body is made up of water. Kidneys need water to filter the blood and eliminate unneeded substances through the urine; the digestive system needs water so that the feces are not too dry or too hard, causing strain; the skin needs water to maintain itself firm and healthy; and even bones should caontain and adequate proportion of water to maintain their elasticity and hardness.
We need to apply water externally (for personal hygiene) as well as internally. Every day try to drink at least six glasses of water between meals( more in the summer). Drink two glasses before breakfast, making sure that they are not too cold. Thid will cleanse the stomach from all the mucus that accummulates during the night. Drink one or two more glasses of water before the noon meal, and another one or two glasses before the evening meal. Choose water above all other drinks.
Water applied externally has a great healing power, know from ancient times. The techniques of hydrotherapy, wheter applied in a public place or at home, such as jets, wrappings, sauna and different kinds of baths, may lessen or even heal many illnesses. Resort to using water as much as possible, even though it may be only once in a while to take a hot bath with bath salts, and relax before going to sleep at night.

THE SUN
The sun is the main source of energy for our planet. Solar light is absolutely necessary for life and for the maintenance of health. Its presence produces vitamin D in the skin. Ultraviolet radiation in sunlight serves as a disinfectant capable of destroying numerous pathogenic germs. Futhermore, it stimulates all the vital processes and serves as a tonic to the organism. Where sunshine enters there is life and health. It has been proven that in winter, when whole days go by without sunshine, the frequency of nervous depression increased.
Nevertheless the use of the sun must be controlled, since the layer of ozone that covers the earth and filters the solar rays(especially ultraviolet) is decreasing. This has led to more intese solar radiation, which is effecting the surface of the earth. It has never been good, and especially bad today, to spend many hour esposing the body to the sun.
PHYSICAL EXERCISE
Our body is designed for movement. Contrary to what happens when something is build by man, inactivity in the body leads to more deterioration than does exercise. It has been demonstrated that persons who dedicate at least four periods of forty minutes each to physical exercise every week run a smaller risk of having a heart attack or circulatory diseases. Exercise combats arterial hypertension, prevents obesity and keeps the entire organism in good condition.The best physical exercise for everyone-which may be done without restriction-is walking. "All of us have two doctors: the right leg and the left leg," says an ancient proverb.

We must make sure that our rest is a restoring one, As we sleep, the neurons cleanse themselves of metabolic waste which has accumulated during the day. All of our body cells need a sufficient period of rest each day. This should be regular-a minimum of seven hours for adult.
But aside from daily rest, our bodies need other period of rest: the weekly(at least one day per week) and the annual. There have been occasions when an effort has been made to change the length of the week. During the French Revolution, Moved by a rationalist philosophy, they tried to set up a week by 10 days! Wouldn't this be logical? But the effort failed. There is something within the human being which makes a period of rest necessary every seven days. It is a biological need, undoubtedly set up by the CREATOR. Regular rest is a good habit.
Abstinence From Toxics

The human beingis the only being which voluntarily destroys its health with toxic substances. The harmfulness of coffee, alcoholic beverages, and above all tobacco and dangerous drugs, has been sufficiently demonstrated. If we wish to have a vigorous and healthy mind, we must avoid any substance which may alter the delicate mechanisms of our brain. ADDICTIVE STIMULANTS (caffeine,nicotine, alcohol, cocaine,etc) cause our organism to operate under forced conditions, which leads to early deterioration and disease.
The use of tobacco and alcoholic beverages is the main avoidable cause of disease throughout the world, according to the World Health Organization. This organization defines health as total physical, mental and social well being, which takes in much more than simply the absence of Sickness.
Health is incompatible with the use of drugs, whether legal or illegal,which makes no difference to our cells. Their use is initiated under the pretense of feeling better, but at the end they must be taken in order not to feel worse. To avoid the use of there toxic substances is one of the best decisions which may be made to promote a happy and healthful life.
Good Mental attitude
Acquire the habit of taking all things calmly; of not worrying about yourself ; of not holding grudges against others or yourself; of confidently
smiling as you face the problems of life.
It has often been demonstrated that an attitude of mental equilibrium is an essential factor to health. Did you know that some studies show that cancer more frequently affects those who are depressed or ill-humored?
To gain this mental peace in the midst of the many tensions and problems presented to us by modern life is not an easy task. Many seek this in faith, finding that the reading of the Gospels, as well as prayer and private meditation, are like a glass of fresh water to their agitated nervous systems.
Confidence and Faith may do much toward obtaining a good mental attitude, and a spirit of peace, which will benefit both mental and physical Health. This comes because the believer lives in the firm hope of a better future, and with the conviction that there is someone over him who understands and loves him.
A good mental dispositon and peace of the spirit decisively influence the good and optimum function of our body.
